[Newt recognizes the dark cloud immediately when he had seen it. of course he has. He had only seen it close up a multitude of times back in New York.

He doesn't contact Credence right away, but waits a little bit. After all, the other probably was unlikely to be able to respond back while being a large, chaotic force. So he waits a moment.

When he thinks that the other might be able to respond, he finally does contact the other.] Hello, Credence?

[This is not a message he wants to send, but Credence is his friend. He made a promise to him, he broke it, and he owes it to him to own up to it. If he doesn't, what's the point of being friends?]

[A package is left on Credence's doorstep. It's wrapped in parchment and tied up with string. There's a note tied and attached with Newt's signature.]

This should have gotten to you sooner. I guess you can say that I've been a tad disorganized as of late, but I found it most recently. I hope with how tense October has been that this will be somewhat soothing to receive at such a time.

Did you take your shot the dogs brought?

[ Gwen gives Credence this t-shirt, and, wrapped inside it, this book on gender identity. ]

[ The package is unassuming: small and soft to handle, wrapped in plain brown paper but tied with a delicate silvery ribbon. Inside is a hand-made striped scarf. While others have received ones in Hogwarts colours, Luna has decided to knit Credence a scarf in Ilvermorny colours, cranberry and blue.

When worn, the scarf will radiate a low-level warming magic to keep the chilly weather away from its wearer.

Inside is a handwritten note —]

To Credence,

Ilvermorny is the name of the school attended by wizards and witches in North America. Their school colours are cranberry and blue. I thought you might like this.

[A reminder, not so gentle, but it is at least pretty: placed within a black box there is an onyx ring engraved on either side with the Deathly Hallows. On the inside of the ring's band the name Aurelius has been engraved as well.]

[In an attempt to enthusiastically celebrate his first ever Christmas, Fern is covertly dropping off a wrapped gift addressed to Credence from him on his doorstep.

It's a butterfly knife!

Because of course Fern would assume a knife makes a good holiday gift.]

[A package wrapped in brown paper and string is left for Credence. There's a letter attached. There are two books along with what was a moderately sized patchwork phoenix plush. The fabrics are very old fashioned, but carefully stitched. It resembles these, but are far more detailed and larger. There's also a tin of homemade biscuits.]

I imagine you didn't have access to any books pertaining to magic, so I hope these will be good additions to your library. The former isn't something I'm readily familiar with, but the latter was a book that's common in most households. I hope that you'll learn much from them.

If you ever need more reading material, you needn't hesitate to ask.

I wanted to reach out because -- well, because I am afraid I have some bad news that I thought you should know.

[ Sometime in early September, left outside of Credence's door: ]

— a.... thing, made of clay, sticks, and googly eyes

[ Inside Credence's mailbox, there is a nondescript white envelope with their name on it. Inside, there is a colorful pog, with a message written on the back in silver fine-tipped sharpie. There's no stamp on the envelope, implying that it was hand delivered rather than mailed. ]
